Welcome to my corner of the internet
I filmed, directed and edited a music video for my band's latest song.
Posted on Aug. 4, 2024.
The song is called No pasa and you can watch the full video bellow:
Background:
Since the release of our debut LP Blue Blankets (back in December 2023) that Julie and I were discussing the idea of making a music video for one of our songs. We talk about making a video for Juguemos a bailar and doing it ourselves, just filming us in different scenarios goofing around. We ended up abandoning the idea due to lack of time, but since we got our whole live set from the venue CCAVE filmed, we decided to use the audio and footage from that night and make this live video for the song.
Moving forward to June this year, we just released a new song called Aléjate de mí and started working on another song called No pasa. I can't explain exactly why but at the time I was feeling very inspired and looking forward to make something a little more different than usual, something that would involve working with more people that just me, Julie and my computer. And also it was a really good time for us as a band, we bonded really well by that point. So once I watched the Only In My Dreams video by Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti I couldn't help but to say to Julie "Let's make a video!" and steal a lot from Ariel's video.
The video ended up being the story of how Julie met his band members and recorded their first album, sort of. Initially it was just going to be Julie meeting a bunch of random people in funny situations, mixed with references of other music videos and movies that we love, but in the end I decided that we (the band) should play these "random people", mostly because it would save us time.

Hardware:
The video was shot using my Samsung HMX-F80.
Additionally I used my Canon EOS Rebel T5 for the Elliott Smith
reference shot.
Software, plugins, etc.:
- Adobe: After Effects 2023 (video editing)
- Blackmagic Design: DaVinci Resolve 18.5 (color correction)
- Image-Line: FL Studio Producer Edition v21.2.3 [build 4004] (music production)
For the Super 8 look I used Fake 8 Film Lab by John Stambaugh and Evan Schneider. And for the VHS look I used the After Effects plugin Signal by Zaebects. Once the final edit was done, I used DaVinci Resolve to give it a more analog look. That was done using this video as a reference.
